Free timing test

Do you rush or drag?

One minute on a pad, three numbers back. Nobody has to hear it but you.

  1. Put on headphones and start the click. It runs at 90.
  2. Set your phone a foot or two from the pad.
  3. Play single strokes, right left right left, two for every click, for one minute.

The recording never leaves your phone. It is measured right here on this page.

Wireless earbuds? Record the minute with your phone's voice recorder and pick the file. Earbuds take over the microphone when a web page records.

What you get back

Drift
Your tempo at the start of the take against the end. Sped up 3 BPM, slowed down 2, or held it.
Evenness
How far your strokes land from a perfectly even line, in milliseconds. 10 or under is Tight, 20 or under is Pocket, over 20 is Loose.
Hand balance
Whether one hand lands later than the other, and by how much.

What it does not tell you: whether you sit ahead of the click or behind it. The page never hears the click, only your strokes, so it measures you against yourself.
